Wolf and I have found something disturbing.
See, we both ‘came of age’ during the 80s. Granted, he was five years ahead of me, but still, it’s when I discovered music as well.
Too many of the songs we enjoyed now have us on the other side of the battle.
Songs about rebellious youths…well, we’re now who they’re rebelling against.
Sobering thought. And depressing. And old making.
Well, yesterday, on the way home from our monthly major grocery shop, (and yes, I get the irony there) Twisted Sister’s ‘We’re Not Gonna Take It’ came on the radio.
Wolf pointed out that we’re now the ones they’re singing to, about ‘not taking it’.
“Ha!” I announced. “We’re homeschoolers, Baby. We’re now in rebellion against the GOVERNMENT! And considering there’s a teacher’s strike happening in our province, it *really* fits! We’re still rebels, dang it!”
Listening to the words, he nodded slowly, a grin spreading across his face.
We’re still doing our own thing. Still following our own path, ignoring the ‘normal’ ways, and doing what we believe to be right. We’re still rebels.
It’s all a matter of perspective, is all.
Where’s my bandana? Stone wash, acid wash jeans? I feel the need for a whole lotta hair spray and head banging coming on…
